Webdevelopment
Multimedia Design & Technology
After Highschool(HAVO) I went to college at the Saxion Hogeschool(Enschede, the Netherlands). Loving computers I started a study in software programming. Always drawing and loving design I found that this study was a little bit too gray for me so I switched to Multimedia Design & Technology. After covering the basics of multimedia(audio, video, graphics and web) I graduated in webdevelopment.
Webdevelopment
I prefer to call the profession webdevelopment because 'webdesign' makes you think more about design, while that's only a part of it. In order to build a succesful website, you'll at least need:
- Web Technology to make the website work
- Graphic Design for an appealing layout
- Interaction Design for usability
- Copy Writing for readable and accessible content(text)
Webtechnology
An allround webdesigner gets confronted with all of the above, and maybe even more. And what about e-commerce and marketing? Although I find every subject as interesting as the next, I decided to focus on webtechnology. I use the following techniques:
- XHTML to describe structure
- CSS to decribe layout/presentation
- JavaScript to create dynamic interaction
- PHP/MySQL to manage content
- Flash/ActionScript for animation and video
Resources
Although books are one of the best ways to show you the way to work, the internet has become a great way to learn stuff too. Check my links for some very handy sources(websites and books)!!
